Many people think that low carb diets are a huge hassle. These diets also don't seem to be reasonable. In school, they teach you that carbohydrates are good. Carbs are a large part of the food pyramid. The truth is that there are carbohydrates that are good for us. There are also carbohydrates that are bad for us. This is true of cholesterol, too. The truth is that eating a low carb diet is not all that different than eating a healthy and balanced diet. By following the rules of nutrition, you can easily eat a low carb diet. Opt for foods that have a vegetable base. Vegetables are low in carbs. This is useful advice for when you go out to eat. Select your side dishes that are vegetable based. Many side dishes are higher in calories and contains foods that are filled with carbs. For instance, steamed veggies are a perfect selection for a side dish. They can also be considered good snacks. One of the most difficult aspects of eating a low carb diet is picking good snacks. Carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower will make excellent carb free snacks. If there are any carbs found in these vegetables, then the levels are extremely low.

Using coconut flour is another way to cut down on carbs. You can use the flour made from coconuts in place of both white and wheat flour and it is low in carbs. This will allow you to still enjoy baked goods and other foods made with flour. Refined flour doesn't work as part of a low carb diet. Coconut flour is a great substitute for that. Another bonus is coconut is a nutrient rich food. Coconut water is a popular health drink. Using this flour means you can eat regular breakfast foods and not worry about the carb count.

Instead of using tortillas, use a bowl! While you may have to do more dishes, it's worth it to limit your carb intake, right? Dishes from fajitas to breakfast burritos can be served in bowls or on a plate and they will still taste delicious. Prepare everything the same way you always have but instead of wrapping it up in a tortilla, serve it in bowls.

Quesadilla or similar dishes are the only ones that this won't work for. Nobody would consider a bowl of melted cheese an appetizing meal.

Somehow, boring food has come to be associated with a low carb diet. Many also believe they will have to give up their favorite foods and snacks. But honestly, a low carb diet isn't that different from eating a well balanced diet. There are a variety of low carb alternatives to the high carb foods that you love.
